A Lo.Co Kid's Perspective Series - Team Journey

After a long day of classes, homework, and dinner I found myself making my way to a 7:00pm lacrosse practice. Before practice my team and I have a routine to go through. Such as, making a sitting area (setting up folding stools in a box), gearing up, and stretching. I sit in the setup area and see 23 players and 3 coaches. Sometimes before practices the coaches either talk about an upcoming tournament or they talk about what they want out of the practice. This happened twice a week for about two and a half months. This season we had 4 tournaments and won 3 of them. The tournaments were based in three different states. The tournaments can be very exhausting because we travel, play six games, and travel back home. Also, some of the games were early in the morning at like 8:00 am and the coaches want us there one hour early so 7:00am. Other games might be late in the afternoon and 90 degrees.

Our goal this season wasn't to win all the tournaments but to improve as individual players and improve as a team. Before every practice and every game our coaches told us not to play with each other but to play for each other. Playing lacrosse can also teach lessons like discipline, good nutrition, sportsmanship, and determination.

My favorite part about being a part of this team is going to practice and knowing that everybody's got your back and will always be included. I apply these lessons to my every day life. For example, living in the present because if I lose focus on the field, classroom, or at home things could pass me by. Another example is being relaxed. Before every game the whole team does yoga to just focus on breathing and relax our bodies to get ready for the game. That teaches us when we are stressed or anxious just to breathe and relax.

We just ended the season and I will deeply miss the team. During one of the long drives to one of the tournaments my teammate and I had a conversation instead of being on our devices and it was a lot of fun. Go Lo.Co!
