Día Nacional del niño y de los libros (DÍA)

¡Celebra DÍA con literatura infantil multicultural y juegos de todo el mundo!

Come celebrate National Children's Day and Books (DAY) at the Tukwila Library! Life On. Cell Off™ will be part of the celebration. We will have our fun Lo.Co Conversation Starter Cards (Spanish and English) as part of the international game time. Learn more below.

King County Library System (KCLS) is highlighting the importance of literacy and play for children from all backgrounds on Sunday, April 28, from 2-5pm at the Tukwila Library. Join us in celebrating Children’s Day/Book Day, known as DÍA. DÍA is a nationally recognized initiative that connects children and their families to multicultural books, languages and cultures. 2019 marks the 9th year KCLS has celebrated this important event.

Starting at 2pm, local Spanish news Univisión anchor Paula Lamas will read stories for children. After Paula’s story time, families will have the opportunity to learn about Arabic, Somali, Soman and Hispanic culture through fun and engaging international games.

We will continue the celebration with “Rebeldina,” a musical program from Latin America comprised of musicians Mirta Wymerszberg and Stuart Zobel.

DĺA programs will conclude with local celebrities: Spanish channel Univisión anchor Jaime Méndez and former Sounders’ team player Jhon Kennedy Hurtado reading bilingual stories for children!

Families are also invited to enjoy crafts, snacks and games throughout the day. We will give out FREE multicultural books, provided with generous support from the KCLS Foundation First come first served, while supplies last.

In addition to the April 28 DÍA event at the Tukwila Library, other KCLS Libraries will host DÍA programs April 28-May 4. Please check the KCLS online calendar for additional information on special DÍA programs, to explore the diversity of materials in our libraries, and to view DÍA booklists and booklists on games and recommended materials in many languages at www.kcls.org/dia.

Important: Parking space at the library is very limited. We highly encourage carpooling or using public transportation. Additional parking will be available on west side of Bartell’s Drug Store.
