Going Lo.Co During Quarantine
We know that everyone has been impacted by Covid-19 in one way or another. Whether you are now working remotely, homeschooling small children, apart from your loved ones or just adjusting to the new normal, days can be long and challenging.
So, we want to bring a bit happiness to your day and share with you the little things that have been getting us through these unprecedented times. Of course, not every day is full of energy and productiveness, as some days are meant to stay in your PJ’s all day and do nothing – or just do your best and start over again the next day.
As for going Lo.Co (Life On. Cell Off™) during quarantine, here are some activities that have brought joy to our day-to-day routine and we hope can do the same for you:
Recipe Sharing:
Our families and friends are having a blast sharing daily recipes – whether it’s a fun snack or dinner for the entire family, there is some comfort in sharing food ideas and seeing them come to life. Even those who would never find themselves in the kitchen, have been making magic happen. So, start that group chat or e-mail chain and send over some of your favorites during this time. What are some of the recipe ideas you just can’t get enough of?
Arts & Crafts with Kids (and Adults too 😊):
Now more than ever, we are all trying to stay entertained and help the time pass. Some days we are convinced the clock has just stopped. Here are some fun activities we have seen to be successful with kids, that may be worth checking out:
• Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Art Activity: This is such a cute and quick activity – plus, you most-likely have most of the items already at home or can easily improvise.
• Squirrel Picnic Table: Yes, you read that right! Building a tiny squirrel picnic table is all the rave during quarantine and actually works! Try it out, put it outside and wait for the magic to happen.
• Sidewalk Chalk Messages: We have seen motivating sidewalk chalk messages around the neighborhood and love reading about others doing the same, all over the country. During times that can make us feel so isolated, this is a great way to send a reminder that we are all in this together.
Adults need entertainment too! Here are some activities that have kept us entertained:
• Bananagrams: This goes for any board game really, but try out this fun twist on the classic Scrabble.
• Cuban Dominos: This is a family-favorite of ours, as our dad was the ultimate Dominos player. The best part is that this game can be enjoyed with just two people!
• Puzzles: Do not underestimate both the challenging and time-consuming power of a puzzle. 500 pieces is a challenge, so maybe start small and work your way up. This is fun for the entire fam!
Giving Back to the Community:
Times are tough right now – people are losing their jobs, the economy is struggling and there is so much uncertainty, which makes it hard to navigate for the future. With that being said, there are so many little things we can do within our communities, that are completely free and can help to just feel good.
• Show Love for Healthcare Workers: Maybe you have seen this trend in your very own neighborhoods, but this is what it means. By placing a heart in one of your home windows or your front door, you are representing love, hope and solidarity for our healthcare workers. A little message of hope can go a long way, especially when working daily on the frontline during a pandemic.
• Random Acts of Kindness: This is one of our favorite Lo.Co activities, that is so needed during these times. Maybe leave your mailman a note in your mailbox with words of encouragement, leave the delivery person a cold beverage at the front door, call that one friend or family member you haven’t spoken to in a while, bake your neighbor some cookies or just hug someone a little more today. A little bit of kindness can go such a long way.
• Volunteer: Times are overwhelming as it is, but it really does feel good to give back when you can. There are several volunteer organizations that are providing critical services within your communities. Maybe attempt to reach out to any local charities you may be familiar with and ask how you can best support them with your time, keeping the safety of you and your families in mind.
We are all just doing our best to adjust to a new normal, whatever that may look like for you and your family. Our Lo.Co Family has always encouraged engaging with those around us and taking the time to really learn things about each other, that every day life can sometimes get in the way of. So take this unpredicted time, to find just one thing daily that brings some happiness and maybe go a little Lo.Co while doing so.
Remember, that we are all in this together.
