Going Lo.Co for the Winter Olympics
There are 92 nations competing in this year’s 2018 Winter Olympics, kicking-off on February 9 in Pyeongchang County, South Korea. The Olympic games is a great time to get together with friends and family, take a break from the regular routine and get motivated by watching some of your favorites from the multi-sport event.
There are countless positive benefits from teaching your kids and loved ones about the Olympic games, that amplify the importance of teamwork and commitment by watching the best athletes in the world! Here are just a few of the lessons that can be learned by going Lo.Co for the upcoming games:
Not everyone is a winner – sometimes it is better to learn sooner than later, that not everyone always wins. Most organized sports these days tend to want to play fair by awarding everyone with some sort of award, but in the Olympics, only the very best performances win an Olympic medal. Sometimes the best athletes can come-up short, teaching the hard lessons of heartbreak and real disappointment.
Excellence comes from hard work and dedication – we wish we are all born to be as fast as the fastest man in the world, Usain Bolt, but his talent stems from years of hard work and pure dedication. The Olympics allows you to learn about the competing athletes and where they came from to get where they are today. This is a great way to teach your kids early on, the benefits of sacrifice for what means the most to you. Sometimes you have to give-up certain things to get you where you want to be – because excellence comes from commitment, no matter what part of the world you are from.
Teamwork is the only way – the amazing thing about the Olympics, is even in the individual events, the athletes are still working towards winning a medal for their TEAM – their country. Most athletes do not get where they are today without the support of their teams, coaches, family, friends and loved ones. The power of a support system can make or break anyone, so it is important to learn the strength in numbers for so many avenues of life, especially sports.
Set goals and believe in yourself – training for years and years with one goal in mind, is what most of the Olympic athletes have done since a young age. During this trying time of high’s and low’s, it is important to always remember to set reasonable goals and to believe in yourself. Sometimes believing in yourself, is something that can be learned from others. What a better stage than the Olympics, to watch people from all over the world come together and believe in strangers they admire for achieving so many of the same goals.
